Denise Johnson Napanangka

Denise Johnson Napanangka is a young woman from Ali Curung to the North of Alice Springs. Her artwork depicts the traditional water dreaming stories and women’s ceremony stories. These important stories are passed on from Mothers to their children by telling the stories while drawing the information in the sand, as the traditional songs are sung. Water Dreaming Stories are very important in the harsh desert environments of Central Australia. These stories are told to teach the younger generations where to go in search of water.
